Tele Greenland Ditch Diesel for 99% Green Energy

Tele Greenland TELE-POST want their sites to be driven by 99% green energy, cutting spending on fuel for diesel generators

"We want our sites to be driven by 99% green energy. Today, we spend a lot of fuel on diesel generators at all our telecom stations, even when we supply with solar panels."

John Pedersen, Project Manager, Tele Greenland A/S - TELE-POST.

SD Wind Energy had the exciting opportunity to travel to Greenland to install an SD3 wind turbine by helicopter on a totally remote site.

Project Manager John Pedersen needed a turbine that could cope with the harsh wind and weather conditions of the Arctic and commented;

"TELE-POST want our sites to be driven by 99% green energy. Today, we know that we spend a lot on fuel for diesel generators at all our telecom stations, even when we supply with solar panels on most of our sites. Therefore we wanted to test if it is possible to use wind energy and place windmills at our sites.

Tele Greenland chose to start a test project with SD Wind Energy windmills, because we knew it had been tested in the harsh climate in Antarctica. Our sites are placed at mountain tops in the Arctic. We hope SD Wind Energy is well suited to survive in the Arctic climate as well as the strong winds we have.

We installed a 3kW turbine by a helicopter on a totally remote site to power our cells as a supplement to our solar panels. At this site, all of our telecom equipment and navigation systems are placed.

We believe that we can collect 2/3 of our costs that we use for service and maintenance on this site if the windmill from SD Wind Energy will function as expected in the Arctic climate."
